80

Happy birthday! Rodney Harley, longtime bassist with the Ron Evans Group and part of the duo Evans & Harley, turns 80 on January 2, 2026.

A summary of Rodney's background can be found in this article1.

For Rodney's 75th birthday, I posted an article with photos on my old blog. I've known Rodney almost as long as I've known Ron, since the mid-1980s. In July 2024, we met at the summer party at “Dahoam” in Starnberg, and he brought me lots of old memorabilia from the past—including an SD card with music on it.

For the old days, I recommend browsing through the section Musicians and BandsWilliam Powell Band, Red House, Ron & The Village Heroes, Ron Evans Group 1 – Rodney played bass guitar in each of these bands. And then again from Ron Evans Group 4.1 onwards.

Rodney also played bass on several tracks during the Starnberg Bluesrock performance:

Then a trip back to 2018, to a performance by Evans & Harley. The photo here shows Rodney and Ron shortly before their performance, taken in the kitchen of the Village in Habach. When I look at this photo, the good old days immediately come back to me – at least for a few moments. You can view the entire series here. One of the first newly developed photo albums in my new image database.

And finally, feel free to take a look at this post on my old blog. At the end, you'll also find the video entitled Wake Up.

An addendum in the evening: there is also a soundtracked picture album2.

  1. Rodney joined Didi Zill and his ABC Boys around 1967, who, as in 1965, were the opening act for the Rolling Stones' tour of Germany. In 1967, the band was renamed The Batmen – an interesting record cover from this period can be found in high resolution on flickr- Rodney is the second from the left. More information about the single and even two videos can be found here

  2. There are two versions of this – both are located in this folder
