Ron had been in poor health since 2022. At the beginning of the year, after several examinations, he was diagnosed with cancer with poor prospects of recovery. After brief periods of optimism, he lost the battle against the disease and was found dead at home in Starnberg on 29 June 2023.

On 27 July 2023, the Ron Evans Group met with Hanns Christian Müller and friends, relatives and companions at the Kult Café in Gilching - the place where Ron had his last live performance on his 75th birthday - to remember Ron and say goodbye to him together.

In his speech, Hanns Christian Müller recalled the times he and Ron had spent together since 1968, after which the Ron Evans Group played a selection of Ron's songs and titles that the group had included in their programme.
